Wal-Mart caves to gun control whims

The story is a pretty straight forward one.  In South Bend Indiana, Wal-Mart has come under fire by Citizen’s United for Better Government (not to be confused with Citizen’s United) for selling tactical shotguns and rifles that they say would not be used for hunting.

The City Council agreed and came to Wal-Mart demanding that they pull these weapons from their store.  Wal-Mart capitulated.  The South Bend Wal-Mart has pulled all long guns with the term tactical attached and will block any future shipment of them to the store and limit the hours in which it sells ammunition.

Now, not only do I fault Wal-Mart for folding under the auspices of “community safety” I also fault them for signing an agreement in 2011 with the City Council stating that no tactical shotguns would be sold with to begin with.

Due to this agreement, perhaps Wal-Mart had no choice to respond as they did, but that only means they bowed to the demands of gun grabbing politicians to begin with and only now has it been made public.

Now, as the old saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  So when some anti gun, rights infringers start bawling about the mean scary gun at Wal-Mart in a sound vacuum where they are the only voice, city councils and businesses think that it is in their benefit to do as the gun grabbers demands.

This is why constant vigilance is needed on the part of Second Amendment patriots.  We cannot let such actions go unnoticed or unchallenged.  Simple thing to do?  Give Wal-Mart a call at their corporate office (or write a letter) and let them know that the capitulation to gun control zealots in South Bend Indiana has not gone unnoticed.  And please, be polite.

This make me sick! So I have no right to defend my family because the gun is called, “Tactical”. I will not apologize for enacting my 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms, and for Walmart to allow these gun grabbing cronies is disgusting!

    “Dear Sir/Madam:

I just read a brief story regarding how the Wal-Mart store in South Bend, IN has bowed to pressure from the city council and anti-gun groups and agreed to cease selling certain types of rifles and shotguns and has agreed to restrictions on the hours during which ammunition is sold. I cannot express strongly enough my disappointment in this capitulation.

The groups involved did not provide any evidence that the types of weapons in questions are used disproportionately in crime, nor have they provided any evidence that ammunition sold in a given hour is more likely to be used inappropriately. (I make that statement because I am certain that no studies with those conclusions exist). This is simply part of an ongoing effort to make gun ownership less acceptable in mainstream society. As long as Wal-Mart continues to sell guns and ammunition, it is difficult to paint gun ownership as a “fringe” activity.

A large cross-section of Americans own and use firearms, and many if not most of them probably shop at Wal-Mart on a regular basis. Your actions are likely to alienate this substantial portion of your customer base, in order to placate a much smaller, although more vocal, group. I urge you and the manager of the store in question to reconsider that decision.

    Thank you,

I’m the same way Ben. I protest with my wallet. If an establishment is anti gun, i’ll find their competitor who isn’t. Support my rights, I support your business.

Some one should explain to these history challenged folks the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It has to do with the F word- FREEDOM

Well first off, I’m very sorry to hear that Walmart has chosen not to sell any type of tactical guns because I have purchased a few long guns through Walmart myself so I’m sure you can understand how upset and disappointed I am. As far as the ammo is concerned, well without the guns there’s really no use for the ammo now is there???
I really hope that some day Walmart comes to its senses and brings back the sale of guns.
    Thank You

Walmart is my only choice for shopping where I live, except for groceries, unless I want to travel almost an hour, so this angers me no end. Luckily, I live in a “gun-friendly area” (Central Texas), but this kind is cancer can only spread unless it is excised swiftly.

The word”tactical” is grossly over used in describing firearms. there’s a “tactical” brand of just about everything nowadays. Knives, Flaslights, gloves, hats, boots, glasses….the list goes on. It needs to stop, tactical is a mindset not a piece of fucking gear, firearms included.

We the people shall prevail…after all thats where it all started and thats where it will end. We the people need to make a statement whether that be boycot walmart or just stock up for the inevitable, if Obama gets his way no guns will be legal, come on people wake the hell up and lets get back to what we the people created the constitution of america….I will keep my guns and amunition, you can keep the change….

Walmart should use their buying power to have the manufactures to remove any reference to tactical from the weapons and packaging and continue selling them

I haven’t bought a gun from Walmart since they pulled handguns off the shelf. I will no longer buy anything from their sporting goods department. A rep from a gun wholesaler told me once that Walmart regularly puts factory 2nd rifles and shotguns (those with defects either cosmetic or internal) on their shelves anyway. They care only about quantity not quality.

anthony, i was also told the same thing by a rep..also their scopes are almost all factory seconds or even worse. makes sense to me, optics are not cheap to make..they gotta get rid of the rejects some how .

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

While the founder of Walmart was pro-gun, from what I understand, those in charge now are basically die hard liberals….

They only sell guns and ammo at all because they know a big chunk of their customers want them and to pull them would anger far too many.

If they had their way, they wouldn’t sell any firearms or ammo.

The wal-mart here in Crossville, TN only recently started selling tactical firearms, so I have yet to buy any from them. k-mart caved over a decade ago. wal-mart should tell these freedom-haters to stick their b.s. where the sun don’t shine.

    Gun control is immoral.

Wall Mart should have never signed an agreement with the City Council that they would not sell tactical guns. They gave up their right to sell them by signing an agreement. And why did the City Council even have that in an agreement when the law gives them the right to sell them.

Here is a thought, IF someone wants to kill or do harm to you, it DOES NOT MATTER what the gun looks like, or if they even have one, They are going to do it regardless of the laws that “Prevent” them. Fact is, a bullet does almost the exact same damage no matter what kind of gun it is fired from (so long as it is the same caliber). If you think that if the U.S. Bans Assault weapons or bans Firearms completely that gun crime will stop, YOU ARE A FOOL. For example, California has some of the most strict gun control laws in the U.S., but yet THEY STILL HAVE GUN CRIMES!! ALSO, Look back at history, there once was a time when guns DID NOT EXIST, AND PEOPLE STILL KILLED EACH OTHER WITH SWORDS, BOWS, SPEARS, AND FREAKIN’ ROCKS AND EVEN THEIR BARE HANDS!!! You can NOT stop a violent person from being able to harm or kill you no matter what laws you pass.

Don’t forget the number of people killed by drunk drivers ………………. shouldn’t we ban cars?

I wonder about the legality of the agreement signed with the city council. Under Indiana state law, local governments may not enact their own firearms regulations…

Sounds like grounds for a legal challenge by those who are 2nd amendment supporters. To allow a minority of noisy uninformed activists to control the wishes of the majority, is to surrender to anarchy.

If banning guns is the solution, sadly they are mistaken. More crime, less guns. Less Crime, More guns! Think about it!

In Long Beach, California, my information is that the Wal-Mart there can’t sell guns and ammo. because the cleaning crews that come into the store at night when the store is closed often have illegal aliens with them doing the same work. Since it is illegal for illegal aliens to own, possess, or control firearms, a Title 18 violation has occurred when they enter the property to work. It hasn’t come to light that another way to persecute and murder Americans is to illegally arm those that commit murder as a way of life such as illegal aliens, gang members, unlicensed mental health workers, etc. The often negligently used term “2nd Amendment rights” is another way of saying “make others 2nd class citizens, or dead.”
