Companies knee jerk reaction to gun control hysteria

There are several corporations and companies that have decided that they will kow tow to the vocal hysteria of the gun control zealots.

Dick’s Sporting goods will no longer be selling sporting rifles at their locations.

Wal-Mart, while saying they will not be changing their inventory has removed the Bushmaster AR-15 from its website. has halted online sales of guns

Even non gun grabbing politicians are backing away from pro gun legislation.  Michigan Governor Rick Snyder picked political expediency over common sense by vetoing a bill that, if enacted in Connecticut, may have saved a number of lives.   The bill would have gotten rid of schools illusionary gun free zone status, thereby not disarming law abiding citizens and teachers from carrying on school grounds.  Considering that criminals and lunatics don’t adhere to the GFZ to begin with, how vetoing this bill does anything for the safety of the children is beyond me.

The worst offender I discovered is the Discovery Channel.  The Discovery Channel has cancelled 2 popular television shows due to the fear of backlash.  The shows are “American Guns“, about a family of Colorado gun smiths and Ted Nugents “Gun Country“. With Sons of Guns being on the chopping block.  Discovery seems to be trying to stagger the announcements of each show as to give off the appearance that they aren’t targeting gun related shows.

Discovery Channels craven and cowardly cave in to gun control zealots both here and abroad is one thing.  The message they send based on there other programming is appalling though.  I took a look at some of their other programs and the fact that Discovery will cancel gun shows because they are viewed as a bad influence on American culture gives de facto credence to the shows that are not cancelled being good for American culture.

Shows like Amish Mafia and Bootleggers.

So, promoting criminal activity is fine for Discovery Channel but shows about the exercising and enjoyment of a Constitutionally enumerated right is beyond the pale?

These companies should be shunned so that they realize that their knee jerk reactions have consequences and that if they will not support our rights than we should not support them.  Let the foaming at the mouth rabid gun control crowd have their sign toting protests and hurl vitriol as they are wont to do.  I protest with my wallet and if Dicks Sporting Goods doesn’t want my money I am sure to find another store who will.

If Rick Snyder will not stand tough to do what is right, I hope the voters of Michigan remember that during the next election.

And if Discovery Channel believes in promoting Amish Mafia and bootlegging instead of legal pursuits like firearm manufacturing than I don’t really need to give them my viewership.

Perhaps when the companies that have turned their backs on the 2nd Amendment see the amount of money they are losing they will reconsider their decisions.  Though that doesn’t mean I am prone to reconsider mine.

Kinda funny that you’re calling for a boycott of those places kowtowing to the anti-gun zealots (including Walmart) and the ad that displayed right under your article was for Walmart. I’m just sayin’.

those ads are different on every machine, its based on your browsing history. Nothing to do with the article or people posting it.

Because the ads aren’t run by the writer. They’re automatically picked based on what you look at. My ad is for because I just got new structure firefighting gloves. Not his fault it was there.

hahah, irony. I don’t have control over which ads get placed within this blog as it is hosted by a third party.

Okay Dave, allow me to explain. GOA does not place the ads on this site. The ads are placed there by the server host “wordpress” Companies pay to advertise on WordPress. Those ads like the one you see from walmart, I have never seen because, I have never online shopped at walmart. I do frequent a website called “World of Watches” and those are the ads that I see. As a matter of fact, it is currently advertising two particular watches I have had my eyes on. The ads you see are based on tracking cookies, where you ISP has visited. At some point, you or someone on your computer has visited, hints why your see that ad and not the WoW I see.

You do know that websites like this sell ad space.. they don’t sell specific ads.

Reminds me of the hysteria over Rush Limbaugh calling Sandra Fluk, the horny college student who couldn’t afford to pay for a box of condoms, a “slut.” Companies left his sponsorship. Companies like Carbonite lost business, where their stock went from $13.00/share to about $6.00/share. It finally got back up to $10.00, but their rash decision to cave to political expediency cost them dearly.

It is a shame that these folks have to be suck chickens. Dang, Besides…Dicks stores are a joke never buy anything in there, Wal-Fart (used to work for them, they only care about money, not people) don’t ever go there, unless no other choice. Cheaper then Dirt is actually more expensive, and yeah, not using them anymore either (even though they said they will continue to sell firearms again).

Sons of Guns was on shaky ground anyway, and there was some shady shit that went on too. American guns is pretty meh. Top Shot is still around, provided you skip through the garbage drama and focus on the competition.

I agree with American Guns and certainly Top Shot. But why do you suggest that Sons of Guns “was on shaky ground”?

      Just curious.

This is not the country it once was. Things have changed and other changes must be made to compensate. We will always have deranged people and we will always have weapons of some sort and these deranged people will always attack the helpless. Those are facts that cannot be disputed.
The only solution is to make the weak strong. Only then will they not be attacked. You do this by training and arming the teachers. There is no other solution. Anything else is either meant to placate the liberals or disarm honest people. You would think someone in government could figure this out.

They have figured it out. They want people as dependent on them as possible. And if it takes a few dead innocents, well, as New York Times reporter Walter Duranty said about Stalin’s atrocities: “you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

Im a pro-gun person… however if you are going to write an article about something… you should really get the facts right… Discovery’s show is not called Bootleggers… it is called Moonshiners… kinda takes away from what you are trying to say if you don’t check your facts… Just sayin’!

    • citemem

      December 20, 2012 at 12:30 pm

@ Samantha: No, it doesn’t. No one cares what it is called; it is about the bigger picture and the point he is making. I don’t care if he called the show “Bootleggershiners”; we know what he is talking about (and I haven’t watched TV in twenty years).

Nice article. It is sad when our rights disappear (or threatened so) because cowards and sheeple are scared and corporations fold because they rely on cowards and sheeple.

What’s Dick’s is telling everyone is that they decided not to sell any more guns after they had sold out of them. They did not pull off the shelves. They sold them and then made the announcement!

Here is a reply that I received from Gov Snyder:

Thank you for your recent correspondence sent to my office.

Senate Bill 59 offered a number of wise and necessary reforms to Michigan’s weapon laws. The bill provided for an enhanced Concealed Pistol License that would require additional training. It would streamline the Concealed Pistol License process by eliminating county gun boards and vesting issuing authority with the sheriff.

More important, SB 59 looked at a feature of Michigan law that needs fixing – Michigan’s open carry law. The law currently prohibits a concealed pistol license holder from carrying a concealed weapon in a “pistol-free zone,” which includes a school, a day care center, a sport stadium, a bar, a church, a hospital, an entertainment facility, and a college classroom or dormitory. Ironically, current law does not prevent a concealed pistol license holder from openly carrying a pistol at these places.

My original hope with Senate Bill 59 was to reach a compromise by prohibiting the open carry of pistols in the above-mentioned pistol-free zones in exchange for lifting the prohibition on the carrying of concealed weapons in these zones — subject to the approval of the public or private property owners.

The resulting bill only went part way in achieving that goal. The bill would allow private property owners to prohibit a person from carrying a concealed pistol on their private property. It permits certain universities and colleges to adopt an ordinance prohibiting the carrying of a concealed pistol. Unfortunately, the bill did not allow public schools, day care centers, or public hospitals to prohibit persons from carrying concealed weapons on their premises. For that reason, I have vetoed Senate Bill 59.

I believe it is important that these public institutions have clear legal authority to ban weapons from their premises: Each is entrusted with the care of a vulnerable population and should have the authority to determine whether its mission would be enhanced by the addition of concealed weapons.

This conversation is likely to continue over the coming months. I hope you’ll continue to share your comments and concerns with my office.

That’s an insignificant distinction, Ashley, as far as the decision not to sell rifles. It does strike me as a bit hypocritical, though. “We have decided, in the wake of this tragedy, that we will stop the sale of rifles. But only after we have cleared out our inventory through sale, rather than shipping them back to the manufacturer.”

Dick’s has been a sell out for gun owners for years, No change there. WalMart did not stop selling guns they ran out of guns, Cheper Than Dirt still sells guns, American Guns and Sons of Guns were two of the worst shows ever made as far as making gun owners look stupid, they will not be missed.

Here’s the thing a lot of these stores already made a ton of money during 2008-2012. Gun sales skyrocketed, with the fear of AWB.

Within this document are a whole lot of people associated with Nancy Pelosi, Feinstein and Boxer that want to take away your 2nd Amendment Rights! Please reach out to all members and associates and send them a personal message about your feelings on this matter, as if your Constitutional Right depends upon it!

Can’t say I am sad to see American Guns get the heave ho. I never shop at Dick’s or Wal Mart anyway. However, I can’t stand the over the top hysteria over an inamiate object (firearms). It’s like people have taken a leave of their senses.

From what I read, Cheaper than Dirt stopped online gun sales because they were getting so many orders they had to revamp their 24 hour shipping guarantee to 72 hours, after that sales would continue.

That is the company line NOW. Initially they stated that due to the shooting in Newtown they would re-evaluate the selling of guns in light of the tragedy. After a huge public backlash they changed the story to say they went down due to overwhelming demand.

Either they caved in the beginning and found out that gun owners are unsupportive of such craven maneuvers OR (and possibly worse) they tried to have their cake and eat it too by lying about why they went down in order to profit from the shooting by feigning a misguided compassion.

Either way, there are better places to go.

The liberals are taking advantage of the emotion of the moment. They want to pass things quickly before people get over the emotion and think logically. Armed homeowners are the best deterrent to crime in this country. Disarm the public and see how quickly crime rises because criminals have no fear of kicking in your door and killing you. I don’t have anything like a bushmaster because I don’t want one. Other people do want them. Those rifles are NOT assault weapons. They are semi automatic rifles
I did have to shoot an armed intruder a few years ago. The police took my pistol and kept it for nine months. The criminal walked out of the hospital following surgery and stayed free for several months before he was finally caught. I never saw a cop car on the street during that time.

The purpose of the police is to write a report after the crime occurs. An armed citizen is the best crime preventative in this country.

If the police can protect us, why are so many law abiding citizens raped, robbed, and murdered?

If Obama wants to talk gun control, then include the unarmed victims of crime so that we can get a comparison. The Sandyhook event could have been stopped or diminished with once good shot from an armed school employee.
